Prostate problems threatens man

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

The prostate gland may be small - amounting to the size of walnuts - but it causes problems for millions of men in the UK. The most common signs of prostate disease in men is a problem with urination, although this can also be caused by other medical conditions such as diabetes.
Urinating problems can be caused by prostate enlargement, prostate inflammation or even prostate cancer. The third such conditions often have similar symptoms, men should always get them checked by their doctor.
Everyone should visit their doctor if they experience:

  •     Urinary difficulties
  •     Frequent urination, especially at night
  •     Have a weak urinary stream
  •     Pain during urination
  •     Feeling the bladder has not emptied properly
  •     Need to rush to the toilet
  •     Dribbling urine
Other less common symptoms include pain when urinating, pain during ejaculation, problems getting and maintaining erections and blood in urine or semen.
Both the enlarged prostate and prostate cancer is more common in men with advancing age.
Enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, a benign condition that affects more than three million people in the UK, and it is thought that more than a third of men in their 50s have symptoms of the disease.
Prostate cancer is the biggest cause of cancer in men in England, and the second largest cause of cancer deaths. Every year, about 37,000 people are diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 9,000 people die from it. Six out of ten cases occur in men over the age of seventy.
Prostatitis, an inflammation of the tissues of the prostate gland, sometimes caused by infection, but in many cases the cause is unknown. It is most common in men aged between 30 and 50 years, but people of all ages can be affected.
